Learning Apps 1

Learning Apps is a site that I learned about from the German teacher at my school. While the site is, initially in German, there are options for use in English.

I generally do not use these apps in class, but I do find them particularly useful for a number of reasons:
  • individual review
  • extra resources
  • differentiation
  • multiple means of input, representation, and expression (UDL)
  • variety
  • alternatives for Gimkit and Kahoot
In the future, you will see posts on how I use Learning Apps for digital learning as well as a way to differentiate and provide Universal Design for Learning.

This blog post features past work I've done with Kahoot. I have been using Kahoot for a number of years and while I do enjoy it, it is not always my go to. That being said, Kahoot has recently come out with a number of new features that I greatly enjoy.

Future Blog Posts:
  1. Gimkit vs. Kahoot
  2. The New Kahoot

Student Feedback

50 Most Important Verbs Practice
Monster Review
Pluto: fabula amoris review
Student Feedback:
  • When surveyed in December of 2016, Kahoot ranked highest in terms of likes (what activities did you like), and second highest in helps (what activities helped)
  • When reviewing for the Spring 2017 final exam, one student set a personal goal to beat his best score. The game provided immediate feedback regarding his accuracy and speed in the review.
  • As their teacher, I often observe pairs or small groups of students discuss the answer before choosing. They will debate, if necessary, and will follow up with questions after the round has ended.

Explanation

There are many of these websites and applications available to teachers. I've tried many of them and will be discussing each in a subsequent blog post. You can look at the categories of blog posts to see each one referenced. As I update how I use these over time, I will continue to add to the discussion.

As we are now in an age where digital learning and readiness is very important as a teacher, many of these blog posts will correlate with posts on the digital learning page. I will do my best to link them there as well.

Connection to World Readiness Standards
